Pedro Castro bet by Local Governments as economic drivers against crisis

The President of the FEMP, Pedro Castro, has said that it is not possible without local governments when seeking solutions to the crisis, since the actions coordinated actions by States would have no real impact if not properly counted local action, and added that "local governments are indeed engines of the economy." This has been expressed this morning at the opening ceremony of the European Summit of Local Governments that, from today until the next day 24 will be held in Barcelona

Castro, who has shared the table with the President of the Generalitat, José Montilla, the Third Vice-President, Manuel Chaves, the Mayor of Barcelona, Antoni Fogué, the Mayor of Barcelona, Jordi Hereu and the Secretary General of the Committee of the Regions Gerhard Stahl, very much appreciated the holding of the Summit of Local Governments "as mechanisms that allow us to align our positions and exchanging views, in this case, how to guide our policies to achieve greater social and territorial cohesion in Europe". He also stressed the importance of the Spanish Presidency for half of local governments and the prominence and recognition that has given them the entry into force of the Treaty of Lisbon. About the Committee of the Regions has been called "the body where local governments flaunt our representation at the European level, and we must therefore continue to call your local chamber character-against the European concept of the regional-and that gives us the possibility of resolving the issues that most affect our cities, our city councils.
The European Summit of Local Governments, framed by the Spanish six-month presidency, has brought together the governments of 260 cities with the goal of establishing anti-crisis policies, from the local perspective, and promote their application from the European Union. This event has been promoted by the Barcelona Provincial Council and the Committee of the Regions.
For the development of the game itself has a working document from which to seek joint proposals to set up an "Agenda Barcelona. The sessions will be held today and tomorrow in Barcelona and will be held on Wednesday, 24-sessions "decentralized" in nine cities in Catalonia. In the morning program is planned a tribute to some former mayors who have helped to European integration, including Pierre Mauroy Pascual Maragall.
