Maria Antonia Perez claimed the roads as gateways to the nature and elements of cohesion of rural territory


The new President of the Local Government Network + Biodiversity FEMP, Maria Antonia Perez, has claimed the value they represent natural pathways for mobility, accessibility and cohesion of the countryside and has called for increased investment in rehabilitation and maintenance are also important elements in the development of tourism and economic development.


The also President of the Diputación Provincial de Guadalajara has participated in a conference in Madrid organized by the Ministry of Environment, Rural and Marine Affairs under the title "Natural Ways. Towards the enhancement of natural, non-motorized routes, which were inaugurated by the Secretary of State for Rural Affairs and Water, Josep Puxeu.
 
Maria Antonia Perez, in his first public as President of the Network of FEMP, explained the benefits of public roads and trails, which allow biological diversity and are also in some cases the access roads to villages more dispersed, while constituting a "gateway to nature," he added.
 
The non-motorized trails throughout Spain covering a distance of about one million kilometers, of which one third are found in conditions of use, which the President described as "inadequate." The average annual investment made in the roads is more than 2,000 euros per kilometer.
 
About 10 million people live in rural areas and 70% of Spanish municipalities with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants. They are the main users and beneficiaries of natural roads, which use sound and helps to avoid risks such as forest fires and damage to the ecosystem. A task in which, said Maria Antonia Perez, also involved the Red presiding, both in regard to specific actions, such as the work of awareness in the protection and conservation of biodiversity in each territory.
