Debate in Barcelona on social determinants of health
The President of the Network of Healthy Cities FEMP, Enric Llorca, highlighted the importance of social determinants of health and has claimed the role of local administrations to detect when these constraints and integrate them into the strategies that have as target a healthy and inclusive cities.
The Mayor of Sant Andreu de la Barca (Barcelona) opened the Workshop on the Social Determinants of Health, held in Barcelona in the framework of the Assembly of the Spanish Network of Healthy Cities. Enric Llorca addition, participated in the opening ceremony the Minister of Health of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Marina Geli, the Director General of Public Health, Ministry of Health and Social Policy, Ildefonso Hernández, and Manuel Bustos, president of the Federation Municipalities of Catalonia.
Over a day and a half, more than two hundred fifty participants will analyze and outline various strategic lines to promote equity in health from the local level, based on the need to take as regards health in all policies seeking to develop a partnership with minimum number of health inequalities, and allowing an improvement in welfare for all, creating places and communities healthier and more sustainable, and strengthening the prevention of health problems.
These submissions shall be accompanied by various practical presentations, with possible action to follow from local governments, with speeches by mayors and councilors in San Andreu de la Barca, San Fernando de Henares, Guadix and Vitoria-Gasteiz, among others.
The day ended with a presentation of the Draft of the General Law of Public Health, where participants will have the opportunity to analyze and bring those issues affecting the local area.
